Beta vulgaris
HEIRLOOM. Also called “Winter Keeper,” this red-fleshed beet with pale green tops is famous for its sweetness, long-storage quality, and tenderness even when large (up to 6” across!) Plant in late summer for fall harvest, then store them in your root cellar or fridge and have beets all winter. These huge beets also produce large tops, very similar to Swiss Chard!
Lutz Green Leaf beets can be direct seeded in the garden as soon as the soil is workable in spring for a late spring harvest, or in late summer for fall harvest and winter storage. Plant in full sun for the biggest roots. Ready to harvest in about 60 days. 2 gram packet contains a minimum of 110 seeds.
